Please don't forget to pay annual ABS membership dues ! Dues of $24.00 are due in August of each year. Dues are prorated $2.00 for each month for members who join mid-calendar year. We use the money to pay a small stipend to our monthly instructors and other various expenses to run our organization. August 26, 2019 Barbara’s presentation will include a discussion of the fascinating and little known history of trading beads in West Africa. The talk will span centuries, from the earliest use of beads as currency to buy gold, ivory and later slaves, to the local manufacture of beads and their part in African culture today. Whether you are interested in the history of beads, the part they play in some cultures, the intricacies of the manufacturing process or purely their beauty, you will find this talk and the accompanying photographs captivating.
