April President’s Corner

MeI don’t know about you, but I am oh so ready for Spring!  Unfortunately, Old Man Winter is still trying to hang around.  I hope you guys are managing well through the many cold fronts coming through Austin.

On behalf of the Board, I’d like to thank to all who participated in March’s meeting activities–Elections, Bead Jar Raffle and Member Sales and take this opportunity to introduce you to the Members of the 2014 – 2015 Board of Directors:

President:  Caron Bailey

Vice President:  Nora Pero

Treasurer:  Connie White

Secretary:  Jane-Michael Stallings

Members at Large:  Ida Stringfellow and Pamela Larson.

A huge thank you to Laura Zeiner (outgoing Vice President) for all of her hardwork and dedication during her term.  During her term as Vice President, Laura was responsible for the monthly projects and organizing the classes that were scheduled–though non-conducted–during the Annual Bazaar.  Although we bid farewell to her as a member of the Board, I’m sure she’ll continue to support your Society as she can.  Thanks, Laura!

Although not elected positions, I’d also like to Welcome Linda Burkett (Librarian) and Michele Iaci (Special Events Coordinator) and Suzanne Ortiz (Hospitality Coordinator) to the team.  Check out the newsletter for all of the election results.

Can’t wait until installation of officers at the June meeting!  See you then.

April President’s Challenge:  Are you ready?  I hope so!  Don’t forget the challenge for this month is to create your own name tag.  The “rules” of the challenge:  The name tag must have your name (of course) and can be done in any medium you choose provided beads are incorporated in the work.

May President’s Challenge:  The Challenge for the May meeting is the Double Spiral stitch. Good luck!

In the near future, we’ll be sending out a series of polls and surveys.  We’d like to find out from the membership, what if anything you’d like to see changed or implemented by your board.  If your membership is current and you are not a member of the Yahoo Group, please contact the Membership coordinator, Natalia Dercaci at membership@austinbeadsociety.org

Finally, a Big Thank You to Raymond S. Ihrig, designer, craftsman, and author.  Scott as he is known, donated two of his CDs “Pop with Pizzazz Jewelry A Crystal Clear Wire Wrap Guide” to the Austin Bead Society.  You can find him at Legendary Beads or at www.ForestRealmDesigns.com  or email him at Raymond@JewelryWireWrap.com.  One of the CDs will be housed in the Library and the other will be raffled off at the April meeting.  You must be present to win!
