Beadful Thoughts From the ABS President

Me  Thanks to everyone that participated in the 2014 Bead and Button Bead It Forward Project especially Ms. Michele Iaci.  Your contributions enabled us–as first time participants–to submit 19 squares that will be made part of the quilt to be auctioned.

We’ve got lots planned for the March meeting.  As you know, this month is election time for the board of officers and a time to fill our vacant positions.  We’ve uploaded duties and responsibilities in the Yahoo Group and you can find them again in the newsletter.  Join the team!  Your Society needs you!

This month is also member sales and the raffle for the contents of the bead jar so bring your leftover beads, findings etc to contribute to the jar.  If you are going to participate in the Member Sales activity, please try to arrive early so you can pick a spot and set up before the meeting starts as member sales will begin right after elections.

Planning for the 2014 Bead Bazaar is gearing up…we received the contract from the Venue and are in the process of reviewing it…Save the Date!!!  November 8 – 9 2014

We are still working on the Bead and Feed…our challenge is location, location, location…I promise, once we’ve got the venue squared away, we will let you know.  Stay tuned to our Facebook page, the Yahoo Group and our website for updates!

In the February meeting, I talked to you a little bit about some of the newer beads that were coming out on the market.  Check out this blog from Interweave’s Beading Daily as guest blogger, Amy Blevins gives an overview of some of them.  http://www.beadingdaily.com/blogs/beading_supplies_we_love/archive/2014/02/27/scratching-your-head-about-all-the-new-shaped-glass-beads.aspx.

Now for the fun stuff…the President’s Challenge!  Attendance at the meetings have been growing and while I know most of the regulars by name (I’m horrible at remembering names..it’s not a requirement in the business I’m in…everyone’s name is on their uniform) I’m having a difficult time remembering everyone.  So….beadroll please….the President’s Challenge is “Design Your Own Name Tag!”.  You can use whatever stitch you’d like; whatever medium (wire, resin, polymer clay) you’d like, off loom or on…it can be as elaborate or as simple as you’d like…after all, you’re the one that has to wear it.  I can’t wait to see what you come up with…I already have some ideas for my own….
