Kumihimo is an easy and fun technique to make your own cords to use as a necklace. Nora will show us how to take some fun and funky fibers to make our very own colorful cords.
You will need: Kumihimo Disk, kumihimo bobbins (small or large, can depend on thickness and length of fibers. If in doubt, go large.), yarn- fancy, textured or smooth. Embroidery floss, pearl cotton, or c-lon cord. Ruler, scissors.
I highly recommend purchasing your kumihimo tools at your Local Bead Store rather than the big box hobby stores. We need to support our fantastic bead stores- plus they stock better quality supplies and are staffed by knowledgeable folks.
Almost any yarn can be used- if you have yarn leftovers these are a perfect use for them. We will be combining yarns with a thinner fiber to make our cords. Fiber only kits will be available for $3.
Nora will also demonstrate how to finish off your cords with either cones or special kumihimo findings. She recommends waiting until after you make your cord to purchase findings, as the thickness of the cord is variable depending on the fibers used.
