Barbara’s presentation will include a discussion of the fascinating and little known history of trading beads in West Africa. The talk will span centuries, from the earliest use of beads as currency to buy gold, ivory and later slaves, to the local manufacture of beads and their part in African culture today.
Whether you are interested in the history of beads, the part they play in some cultures, the intricacies of the manufacturing process or purely their beauty, you will find this talk and the accompanying photographs captivating.
Barbara lived in Ghana, West Africa for 3 years.
