Project: Fun with Carrier Beads by Karen Long
Carrier Beads are currently all the rage! Karen will teach us how to cover the beads and offer some ideas for fun and beautiful projects.
We’ll be beading a peyote strip, zipping it together, and connecting it to the carrier bead to keep it from sliding around. We will also cover ways to join the finished beads to create necklaces and bracelets.
(If you don’t know how to do the peyote stitch, there are many tutorials on YouTube. Flat even count is the easier peyote stitch to start out with.)
List of materials to bring to the meeting:
- Acrylic/plastic/glass or ceramic Carrier Beads – quantity depends on what you are going to make. They are usually sold in 20-25 piece packages. (In Austin, we know of one bead shop that sells these. Carrier beads are also sold online.)
- size 11/0 Delicas – 2-5 different colors
- Thread of choice – 6 lb. Fireline, One-G, Nymo, etc.
- Size 10 or 12 beading needle
- Scissors and bead mat
